PANJIM: Goa IT Professionals (GITP) have launched a project that puts public transport timetables on Google Maps and make them available to every citizen at their fingertips.
According to an official statement today, the project was executed by a group of final year students as part of their curriculum under the guidance of GITP.
One member of the group, Chaitanya Malik, decided to offer the project as a service to KTC and River Navigation Department.
Time tables, routes and boarding points of the agencies have now been published on Google and can be accessed at http:it.do/mygoa or maps.google.com or through the Google Maps mobile application.
With the convenience of knowing bus and ferry timings as and when needed, the project encourages citizens to prefer public transport over personal vehicles for their daily commute, thereby reducing congestion on roads.
The data presently published consists of 90 bus routes out of 300 and all the ferry routes in Goa, the release added.
