CURTORIM: Rupesh Naik was elected unopposed as the new deputy sarpanch of Curtorim on Friday. He succeeded Simon Barretto, who resigned from the post a month ago.
His term will not be easy as several works in Curtorim have been pending for many years. The locals are also seeking answers for serious problems like dengue and infrastructure issues.
A villager Pedro informed that the locals were afraid of contracting dengue as several cases were reported in nearby areas. He said, “We are worried about the dengue outbreak and hope the Health Department’s Visiting Committee comes and assesses the situation.”
“Our village is so big and has a huge population, but no proper centralised market facility for many years. We expected the panchayat to solve the problem,” said local John Pereira.
A student from Curtorim stated, “The football ground has no access road and no parking space. Our infrastructure facilities have been most ignored. We need the ground to be properly maintained.”
Naik promised to look into all complaints and fulfill the panchayat’s needs. He expects the work to happen soon as he is in sync with Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco.
