Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar had recently announced that Hindustan Aeronautics Limited in Bangalore has been asked to examine feasibility whether Goa can be a hub for helicopter manufacture unit.
Speaking during the congratulatory motion in the Goa Legislative Assembly, he urged the government to introduce courses in aeronautical studies to help Goans get employment if such units are opened in Goa.
“Goa has no college for aero studies. The jobs will go to outsiders. I request that if there are plans for the unit, please introduce these courses,” Khaunte said.
Opposition leader Pratapsingh Rane also said he hopes the helicopter manufacturing unit brings employment to Goans. At the Goa Investment Summit held at Dona Paula in February, Parrikar had expressed his interest in setting up the unit. He had subsequently appointed HAL to conduct the feasibility report for Goa and submit the report on priority before the Defence ministry.
