MARGAO: Aravind K.P (# 69) of TVS Racing Team stole the limelight by finishing first in the most prestigious class, SX1 and Abdul Waheed Tanveer (Team TVS) being the runner-up in the first round of MRF MOGRIP FMSCI National Supercross Championship 2016 held at Calvaddo Supercross track, Navelim, recently.
Due to the record number of entries, the organizers had to run two qualifying heats to ascertain the final 22 riders in the Novice Class. It also saw the participation of two new teams in the form of “Ten Racing” and “Lorraines Racing”, who made their debut here in India.
The SX 2 class for ‘privateers’ on foreign machines was a cracker of the race with a hard fought battle between Adnaan Suhail, Vishal and Yash.
The highly coveted title for the local class was a tight battle with 18-member strong grid but it was Shabuddin Sayed, who bagged the top honours in this class.
The JR SX class featured participants under the age of 15 years. These children were the real heroes in the eyes of the local crowd and even received a standing ovation as they took a victory lap around the track.
Earlier, chief guest Mahadeo Naik, guest of honour Benjamin Silva and DM, MRF Raghvendra, flagged off the championship.
The Supercross witnessed a packed stadium and over 150 entries from the riders across the nation.
The track was a mix of tight technical jumps and smooth corners but completing the race in itself was a huge challenge due to the hot, dry and humid conditions. But the riders thoroughly enjoyed racing in these different conditions, which went to prove the level of maturity that the national Supercross talent has reached.
This event has proved to be one of the most popular events for the riders in the past several years due to the great racing atmosphere and crowd. This is due to the focus that MRF, FMSCI and Godspeed Racing have invested into the growth of this sport in India. The event was organised by Godspeed Racing in association with The Stalwarts Motorsports Club.
