PANJIM: Cardiac surgeon, Dr M D Dixit said, the sedentary life style of people and intake of junk food has increased the cardiac related illness among the people.

Dr Dixit was speaking at the inauguration ceremony of free cardiac medical camp organized by Lions Club of Quepem, Curchorem, Sanguem and Alem-de-Margao at Borimol Sports Complex, Quepem. Dr Dixit who has conducted more than 12000 cardiac operations was available to the people of Quepem, Curchorem, Sanguem alongwith his team of cardiologist and experts from KLES Hospital, Belgaum. The team examined more than 600 patients and 18 patients were detected with cardiac disorder and patients were feather referred for the investigation to KLES hospital Belgaum out of which 12 were referred for angiography and 6 for surgery.
Mahadev Naik, Minister for Industries and Social Welfare, Nilesh Cabral, MLA of Curchorem and Subhash Phal Dessai, MLA of Sanguem were present.
Workshop at Sankhali

Doctorate conferred
PANJIM: The Goa University, at its 25th annual convocation held recently conferred the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Microbiology on Trelita de Sousa, daughter of Adv Colville/Maria Helena de Sousa of Parra, grand-daughter of the late Adv Frank/Anne de Sousa of Clarke Town, Nagpur and the late Dr Vilanova/Aurea Lobo of Calangute. Her Research Guide is Prof Saroj Bhosle, Department of Microbiology, Goa University.
Retreat at Fatorda
PANJIM: Bro Anil of Salvation Ministry will be conducting a one-day prophesy and healing retreat on February 14 at Silver Springs near PWD, Fatorda between 10 am to 4 pm.
Music teacher awarded
MORMUGAO: Sharad Mathkar, music teacher from Navy Children School Dabolim, was recently presented with the ‘Global Gunijan Puraskar 2012’.
The award was presented by owner of Asian Smile Co-operation Rose Peanpit in Bangkok by Bharatiya Samaj Vikas Academy. Mathkar was awarded for his work in the cultural field.
Speaking on the occasion, Mathkar said to achieve success, hard work and sincerity is irreplaceable.
Mathkar has also been selected to receive Yuva Srujan Purskar 2012-13, which will be presented by Art and Culture Department of Goa.
Painting contest organised
MORMUGAO: Indian Coast Guard recently organised a painting competition on ‘Indian Coast Guard in Protection and Preservation of Marine Environment and Saving Life at Sea’ for the school children in the State.
The competition was held on the occasion of 36th Raising Day of ‘Guardian of the Sea’ the Indian Coast Guard, an armed force of the union.
Suraj Sanikatta and Lancio Moraes of Bethany Convent High School bagged the winner and runner’s up place respectively in category I (Std 5 to 7), while Riya Mandal and Rashi Yadav of Kendriya Vidyalaya won the first and second place respectively in Category II (Std 9 to 12). About 150 students participated in the event.

One held for molestation at Ponda
PONDA: A flat owner from Ponda has been arrested on charges of molesting a married woman in the flat rented out by her family.
According to Ponda Police, the woman was residing in the rented flat owned by the accused, Nitin Rane (45), who was residing on the ground floor in the same building.
Police further informed that the incident occurred on Wednesday at about 9.30 am when the accused allegedly entered the flat and tried to hug the woman.
The accused also seems to have passed lewd comments, informed Ponda Police.
Police informed that at the time of the incident, the children of the victim were in school, while her husband was out of state due to work.
Police further informed that the victim later filed a police complaint. Rane was later released on bail and PSI Mohan Gaude is investigating the case.
Couple rescued at Dudhsagar
COLLEM: A couple from Haryana was saved by lifeguards at Dudhsagar waterfall on Wednesday.
According to reports, Manoj (23) and Ankita Goyan (22) were clicking photographs by standing on the rocks when they slipped and fell into the water.
As both were non-swimmers, they panicked and called for help. Lifeguards rushed to the spot and secured the couple.
Worker dies in museum
OLD GOA: A 44-year-old servant of Archaeological Museum died in museum on Tuesday.
According to Old Goa Police, B V Ganesh Char, native of Karnataka but residing at Dhauji expired in the museum. The body has been preserved in GMC morgue in Bambolim and PSI Ramesh Shirodkar is investigating the case.
Canca scooterist dies in mishap
PORVORIM: A 35-year-old scooterist from Canca died after he was knocked down by a speeding motorcycle at Vishweshwar Shiv Shankar Temple.
According to Mapusa Police, Shekhar Parsekar was proceeding on his scooter (GA-03-L-3573) when he was knocked down by the speeding motorcycle (GA-03-L-9530) near Vishweshwar Shiv Shankar Temple
