A stunning brace from Shekar Kerkar eased A A de Moira to victory as they overcame Augustias Sports Club 4-1 in GFA’s Third 1division at Quitula ground on Thursday. Moira led 1-0 at the interval.
In the 76th minute, Augustias’ Paul Pinto was sent off for tripping Peter Menezes in front of goal. This led to Moira scoring two goals in two minutes putting them in a commanding position.
Moira counter-attacked at pace which gave them a great advantage. Their striker Peter Menezes looked confident in front of the goal and tested the rival keeper throughout.
Augustias did not play too badly. The young side lacked a little experience and committed needless fouls which in the end cost them the match.
In the 15th minute, Moira opened the scoring through Peter Menezes who managed to chip the ball on the bounce over Augustias custodian Chris Fernandes.
Crossing over, Augustias pushed forward for an equaliser but with no luck.
In the 76th Augustias’ Paul Pinto lunged at Peter Menezes in the box to prevent his route to goal. The referee had no option but to show Paul the red card and award a penalty to Moira. Shekar Kerkar stepped up and doubled the lead after faking to send the Augustias goalkeeper the wrong way.
Two minutes later, Moira’s Joseph Noronha weaved his magic on the right before crossing to the edge of the box, where his teammate was brought down. From the resulting free kick Shekar curled the ball amazingly around the wall and into the net.
With five minute to go Sanjay Mayekar flicked the ball past his marker with his back to goal before laying on the ball for teammate Pundalik Naik to slot home.
Within seconds of the restart Joseph Noronha received the ball in an advanced position and coolly lifted it over the Augustias goalkeeper to restore his side’s three goal cushion.
