On Saturday, burglars broke into the house of Wilfred Victoria at Tembewada and decamped with a DJ controller, iPod, laptop, watch, silver ring and other electronic items worth Rs 3.5 lakh. Police said the occupants were away at the time and the robbery came to light the next morning. A police team led by PI Costa is investigating the incident.
Shopkeepers at the Chaudi KTC bus stand also informed that in the absence of proper lighting and security personnel, the area had become a happy ground for anti-social elements. They said men and women took advantage of the poor lighting to “indulge in immoral activities.” The number of people visiting the bus stand at night increases on Saturdays, which is the market day, and on Sundays.
“Many men and women make their way to the bus stand at night on the pretext of taking shelter. However, their actual purpose is to engage in the flesh trade,” said a shopkeeper, adding that the visitors were mostly outstation vendors, ‘lamanis’ and the labour class.
