While the Konkani script issue is in the news, the pro-Marathi supporters have now warned of an agitation if the language is not recognized as the official language of the State before forthcoming Lok Sabha elections 2014. The protagonists of Marathi language under the banner ‘Marathi Rajya Bhasha Andolan’ have also threatened to work against BJP during the polls.
Speaking to media persons, Convenor Pradip Ghadi Amonkar said, “Since last eight months we have been working for getting a status for Marathi. We won’t keep quiet until the State government declares Marathi language as the State language on par with Konkani language”.
He said that morchas, demonstrations, rallies would be held across the State. “Government needs to resolve the issue before the Lok sabha polls,” he demanded.
