MERCES: The Indira Nagar culvert at Chimbel continues to be in the limelight for all the wrong reasons and this time the use of mud to raise the road platform to the culvert level has left muddy trail in the area, thereby inconveniencing road users.
Severely affected are the students and their parents, studying in the government school at Kirlawada who have to walk through muddy water every time there is a downpour.
Also affected are the devotees of the Santa Barbara Chapel who have to use this road to attend mass on Sundays.
Speaking to Herald, a devotee Mathew Quadros expressed anger as several devotees, particularly women, get their clothing soiled when they walk through the muddy road while making their way to the chapel.
“The two-wheeler riders are also facing great difficulty in navigating the road as there is a possibility of slipping,” he further complained.
When contacted, PWD JE Chandran said the work on the culvert is held up for the moment as the pipeline, which run underneath the drainage is yet to be shifted.
“No sooner the water supply department shifts the pipeline, which they have promised to do in the next few days, we will start work on soling,” he informed while opining that soling needs the use of a road-roller which cannot be done at the moment as the pipeline would burst.
Chandran also explained the practical difficulties faced by the PWD while undertaking road works during monsoon, but promised to do his best to solve the problems faced by road users.
