PANJIM: Don Bosco, Panjim earned the right to meet Rosary College, Navelim in the finals of the Inter Collegiate Football Championship 2013-14 organised by Goa University at Taleigao.
In the first semis-finals of the day Don Bosco overcame the challenge of Dhempe College, Miramar 6-4 via the tie breaker.
In fact it was Dhempe that dominated the proceedings right from the word go and found the nylons early in the 7th minute through Raymond Rodrigues.
However Don Bosco fought back and managed to find the equalizer when Leonardo D’Souza struck moments before the half time break.
In the tie breaker, Joewel Caido, Jose Lopes, Ajay Naik, Edelbert D’Silva and Prakash Khatri netted from the spot for Don Bosco, while Dhempre could manage through Pierre Fernandes, Royston Fernandes and Raymond Rodrigues.
In the second semi finals, Rosary College, Navelim put up a spirited display to defeat
St. Xaviers College, Mapusa, 2 – 1. Xaviers took the lead in the 13th minute through Albert Gonsalves.
Rosary came back strongly in the second half and equalized in the 59th minute through Stephen Pereira. Hanslum Furtado scored the winner for Rosary in the 75th minute.
The finals will be played on September 19th at 9.30 a.m.
In the women section, S. Caculo College, Mapusa got the better of M.E.S., Zuarinagar 1 – 0. Sheliza D’Souza netted the winner for Caculo College early in the second half.
In the second match of the day the Mallikarjun College girls, Canacona beat Pharmacy College, Panjim by two goals to nil.
Darshani Komarpant and Sunita Velip scored for Mallikarjun College, both the goals coming in the second half of play.
