Comunidade Administrator says will ask Collector for demolition squad

MARGAO: South Goa Comunidade Administrator Sangeeta Naik on Tuesday said her office will intimate the District Collector South on the factual situation atop Talsanzor and to requisition the demolition squad to raze down the 109 illegal structures.
The Comunidade Administrator’s stand comes in the wake of a report submitted by the Attorney of Margao Comunidade today stating that none of the structures which were served demolition notices have been razed down by the owners. What’s important to note is that the Comunidade Administrator has decided to ask the District Collector to requisition the services of the demolition squad since her office has not received any communication from the government on any plans to keep the demolition exercise on hold, notwithstanding Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar’s promise to the beleaguered residents that his government would not thrown anyone on the streets.
“Based on the report from the Margao Comunidade Attorney and the fact that deadlines served on the owners to demolish the structures have expired my office has decided to submit a factual report to the District Collector with a plea to requisition the demolition squad to raze down the structures,” Sangeeta told Herald on Tuesday.
Her decision comes a day after she rejected a petition filed by the petitioner representing the 42-member group to give them extension of four more weeks to comply with the demolition order. “My office had given sufficient time to the 42 petitioners to raze down the structures within 10 days. Hence, I reject their plea for additional time,” she said.
A total of around 109 persons were issued notices to raze down the illegal structures by the District Collector South and the Comunidade Administrator. While the District Collector had rejected the pleas of 67 persons for regularisation of their structures following government’s acceptance of the resolution of the Margao Comunidade opposing any regularisation plan, demolition notices for the remaining 42 persons were issued by the Comunidade Administrator. The deadline set by both the Collector and the Comunidade Administrator had expired on Monday.
