MAPUSA: The Calangute Panchayat recently launched its website www.calangutepanchayat.com to provide online services to the people of the village.
MLA Michael Lobo in presence of Sarpanch Anthony Menezes, Panchas and officials of HDFC bank launched the website.
A first of its kind, now the Calangute locals can make online payments, download different forms and track abandoned cattle and garbage collection.
Sarpanch Anthony Menezes informed that now people would be able to pay their house tax online even if they are out of the country. Also, all the required forms are available on the website which people can download and submit in the panchayat.
“Mini chips will be inserted in body of cattle which will help in tracking them. The cattle will be registered with the panchayat with valid details of the owners. This will help the owners to track their cattle and people can also identify and further inform the owner if the cattle is found loitering around causing inconvenience to public,” Manezes added.
The people can also keep a track of garbage collection. The website provides service of tracking the garbage vehicle time to time. Besides, people will be able to find out where the truck has reached and whether the garbage has been collected or not.
MLA Micheal Lobo said, “Online payment of tax is a transparency that the panchayat has with the people of Calangute. Around 40-50 thousand people visit Calangute daily and around 30,000 tourists stay in Calangute. And for a population of almost 1 lakh, the infrastructure development is also important.”
“There are chances that such a crowded place has problems such as drugs and prostitution, but the people need to keep their eyes open and speak out about all the illegal activities happening around them and inform the police or authorities concerned about it. Government has given free hand to Calangute police to register cases of drugs and prostitution,” he said.
