VASCO: The Goa naval area chief Rear Admiral Puneet K Bahl has said that since Goa has a seafaring culture and ship building industry, Goan youth should join the Indian navy in more numbers.
“Goans have seafaring attitude, they do fishing, they are on merchant ship as well as in shipping industry besides, hence, I feel that more and more Goan youth should come forward to join the Indian navy,” Bahl said.
“On our part, we are already creating a lot of awareness among the local youth about the navy. We are now even sending our teams to schools in Goa and these teams create awareness about the Indian navy, recruitment process,” Bahl said.
He was speaking to newsmen onboard INS Kochi during the annual ‘Day out at Sea’ event organised by the Indian navy as a part of a weeklong Navy Day celebration.
Goa Governor Mridula Sinha, 60 lawmakers/State government officials and a large media contingent were part of the ‘Day out at Sea’ event onboard INS Kochi.
Minister for Panchayat Mauvin Godinho said that Goans should aspire to join the defence force as it gives a bright carrier.
“It is true that Goan youth have been staying away from joining the defence forces, but if they are given an exposure to the life of naval force at sea with live demonstrations like the way the navy did today then they (Goan youth) might become more inclined towards joining the defence force,” Mauvin.
He said that the defence forces are not only modern but they also give you a bright career. “I feel that a career in defence forces promises one of the most prestigious and respected positions in the country,” he said.
