MARGAO: GOACAN volunteers held a protest to highlight the failure of the PWD to undertake urgent repairs of the Margao flyover. Armed with black flags and placards, the protesters highlighted the failure of the PWD officials to act since the last 18 months despite clear cut orders from Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Margao.
It may be recalled that on the request of GOACAN in July 2016 the first meeting was convened by then SDM Ajit Panchwadkar who directed the PWD officials to undertake immediate surface repairs of the flyover which connects Margao and Navelim.
Subsequently, at a review meeting held on October 21, 2016, PWD officials assured the SDM that a consultant was being appointed in the matter and sought additional time to undertake the repair works.
As no action was forthcoming from the PWD, in July 2017 GOACAN petitioned SDM Uday Prabhudesai to seek an ‘action taken report’ from the officials on the repairs of the flyover. The SDM convened a meeting in October 2017 of officials of the PWD, Konkan Railway Corporation, Traffic Police, Town and Country Planning Dept, Fire & Emergency Services and Department of Consumer Affairs.
At the meeting the SDM directed the Konkan Railway Corporation to submit the Structural Audit Report.
