PANJIM: St Xavier’s College, Mapusa, will clash with Rosary College, Navelim, in the final of the inter-collegiate football championship for women, organised by Goa University, at University ground, Taleigao Plateau.
In the first semi-final, St Xavier’s College defeated Don Bosco College 2-0. In the first half, St. Xavier’s College scored one goal, which went through the hands of the goalkeeper on a shot taken by Sujata Naik in the 27th minute.
In the second half, St Xavier’s College scored one more at the dying end of the match in the 87th minute, which came from Ishank Marorekar, to clinch the victory and book their place in the final.
In the second semi-final, the defending champions, Rosary College, Navelim, showed full dominance, defeating Carmel College, Nuvem, by a score of 9-1.
The first half started with attacking play by Rosary College, which managed to score three goals, which came from Rizella Almeida in the third minute, Jossela Mascarenhas in the 16th minute, and Aniela Barreto in the 22nd minute.
Carmel also managed to score a goal, which came from Jessney Fernandes.
At the end of the first half, the score was 3-1.
In the second half, Rosary College came with greater attacking intent and scored six more goals for a resounding win.
The goals came from Rizella Almeida in the 48th minute, Hani Costa in the 50th minute, Aniela Barreto in the 61st minute, Rizella Almeida’s hat-trick goal in the 67th minute, Aniela Barreto’s hat-trick goal in the 68th minute, and the last one was an own goal conceded by Carmel College in 70th minute.
The final will be played on November 3, at 3 pm at Goa University ground.
