MARGAO: A day after District Magistrate, South, issued directions to shift the students from the school or face closure from Monday, the management of T B Cunha school, Aquem, said it will comply with the requirements, but questioned the role of the Disaster Management Authority in passing the order.
President of the Society, Adv Narayan Desai, said the Society does not agree with the order passed by the District Collector asking the school to shift the students by Saturday or face closure of the school on Monday. “What has the Disaster Management got to do with the school building? If that is the case, why has the District Collector not issued similar orders to the Administrator of Comunidades to stop operating from the leaking Comunidade building,” Desai questioned.
Replying to a question, he said the school has alternate place to accommodate the students, adding that the management would repair the building as desired by the Collector. “We feel that the school is very much safe and not dilapidated as claimed by the Collector,” he asserted.
Colmorod school rent row resolved
MARGAO: The row over the locking of the government primary school, Colmorod-Navelim, was finally resolved after the Education Department credited the rent amount into the account of the owner.
Deputy Director of Education, Ramkrishna Samant, is believed to have personally called on the owner and also handed over the extended lease agreement. After the meeting, Mathew Carneiro said the school will be unlocked in the interest of the students since the Education Department has cleared the rent and also extended the lease agreement. “The school was locked because the department took the matter for granted. For months, they failed to clear the rent dues and also remained silent on extending the lease agreement,” Mathew said.
