CURCHOREM: Hitting out at the People for Mopa International Airport’s (PFMIA) demand that Mopa be made the ‘only international airport’, the Quepem Citizens Committee (QCC) on Friday said they will support the Dabolim airport to any extreme as it is the only feasible solution to the demands of Goans.
It may be recalled that the PFMIA on Thursday appealed to the government to close down Dabolim airport and to declare Mopa as the only international airport for the State.
QCC Vice President Evangelisto D’Costa questioned the PFMIA’s authority to suggest that Dabolim airport should be given to the Navy.
Advisor Camilo Simoes said the PFMIA should stop making comments based on assumptions and said he would be happy to sit and explain the pros and cons on the issue. QCC Treasurer Jose Colaco said the Dabolim airport issue is not politically motivated or supported and it is the movement of the common people.
QCC resolved that they will support the Dabolim airport to the extreme extent which is the only feasible solution to the demands of the Goans and urged Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to allot necessary land at the earliest to solve the parking issue at the airport, stated a press note.
