Addressing the villagers on the Western bypass issue, Navelim MLA Avertano Furtado assured that Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar and PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar had agreed to construct an overhead bridge wherever the bypass divided the village.
The gram sabha passed a resolution that the western bypass should be scrapped as it was not only splitting the village, but the mud dumped in low-lying fields would also destroy the fields as well as Saipem Lake in the monsoons.
The gram sabha also approved a 3 percent penalty on arrears of house tax, while the panchayat has decided to keep the revision of the house tax on hold even though it is due. Further, the gram sabha decided to extend by a month, registration with the panchayat of the premises that are given on rent.
Sarpanch Frank Fernandes also agreed to inspect a construction at the foothills of Moddi-Navelim, which has been marked as a no-development zone. Furtado also distributed ration cards to the gram sabha members.
