MAPUSA: Former Calangute Sarpanch Joseph Sequeira on Friday said the sewerage project in the village is yet to see the light of day.
With Calangute struggling to carry out development, the former sarpanch said, “The underground sewerage project for the coastal village is one of the development projects since the sewerage was flowing on the roads, nullahs, fields and even into the sea. Despite the project which commenced in 2013 it is yet to see the light of day.”

“The Rs 105 crore project has 10,044 manholes and 10,200 inspection chambers with a four-kilometer pipeline from Sim to Baga. This project was supposed to be completed in 2016,” he informed.
“Lobo was elected as MLA for the development of Calangute but he is a man of disaster. The work of the sewerage project is done with haphazard planning with roads that sink. Also sub-standard work is being carried out with roads brushed with hot-mix on the pipeline due to which the whole stretch of road sinks every now and then,” Sequeira alleged.
Sequeira said, “Four-wheelers cannot move on this road. Water flows out of the chambers like fountains at different locations. Today, there are water fountains but tomorrow once the project opens then where will the sewerage go? Calangute will start stinking and people will have to leave Calangute since it will affect all the businesses,” he added.
