MARGAO: A fine brace from Mauvin Gomes helped Mandopa Sports Club thrash Carmel Sports Club 5-1 in Group C of Salcete Zone GFA Third Division League at Rosary ground, Navelim on Monday.
Mandopa led 2-1 at the breather. Mandopa Sports Club dominated the game. However, it was Carmel Sports Club, who rocked the rival citadel in the very 1st minute when Joywin Costa bulge the net.
Stung by setback, Mandopa regrouped quickly and instantly took the fight to the rival camp and in the 33rd minute Lestern Carvalho neutralized the lead.
The equalizer helped Mandopa to mount pressure on the rival goal and in the 35th minute striker Mouvin put his team 2-1 lead.
Post resumption, Mandopa Sports Club intensified their attacks and pushed their opponents on the back foot. In the 48th minute, Mauvin again scored to complete his brace when he punished the rival defence with snap shot.
Welfron Mascarenhas inflated the tally in the 85th minute. Maurcio Pereira drove the last nail into rival coffin.
