MARGAO: A second half strike by striker Valky Fernandes enabled Cuncolim Union overcome Dicarpale Sports Club 1-0 to march into the final of All Goa Telualim Panchayat Cup inter-village football tournament organized by United Club of Telualim, at Telaulim ground, on Monday.
There was no score at lemon break. In an absorbing encounter, the teams had equal number of scoring chances and kept their goalkeepers busy throughout the game.
Dicarpale had a chance to take lead but striker William Fernandes’ rasping shot was well blocked by Cuncolim Union goalkeeper.
Cuncolim Union nearly found the breakthrough but striker Daulat Dessai’s volley was well taken care by Dicarpale goalkeeper.
Crossing over, the all-important goal came in 47th minute when Valky Fernandes scorcher crashed into the net after receiving a pass from Cliffton Fernandes.
Cuncolim Union will now meet United Club of Benaulim in the final on October 19.
