Addressing a news conference, Lobo said former Calangute MLA Agnelo Fernandes and Congress spokesperson Sunil Kawthankar were trying to politicize the issue by dividing the people of Goa on religious sentiments.
“I have condemned the recent attacks on Christian religious leaders and people who were on a peaceful march to protest the attacks on Churches in Delhi and the desecration of Holy Communion and statues in my letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Rajnath Singh. We in Goa live in total harmony and such unwarranted statements by Congress leaders will divide the people on religious lines,” stated Lobo.
“The recent attacks on Churches in Delhi were not by a mob or party, but were attacks by individual elements destroying the Churches, desecrating the Holy Communion and statues, which the government needs to probe thoroughly.”
“I also condemned the lathi-charge by the Delhi police and urged upon the Prime Minister and Home Minister to punish the official who ordered lathi-charge on peaceful Christian protesters and arrest the culprits involved in destroying the Churches in Delhi,” added Lobo.
