VASCO: Freedom fighter and tiatrist, Ciriaco Dias said with migrants flocking and prospering in Goa, our Goan culture and identity is facing an immediate threat. Our sole identity is our Konkani language.
He was addressing at the Dalgado Konkani Academy’s (DKA) Dalgado Day celebrations at Ravindra Bhavan, Baina, Vasco.
Dias said that DKA has become the symbol of unity in Goa. A cultural programme was also staged followed by a lecture on Mons Dalgado and release of three books – ‘Xirfiro’ novel by Pandharinath D Lotlikar; ‘Natim’ short story collection by Menino Almeida and a reprint of Daniel F de Souza’s humorous articles titled ‘Chun’nam ani Kan’ddam.’ The keynote speaker was Fr Luis Xavier Gomes, Assistant Parish Priest of Mapusa Church and a gold medalist in Konkani language from Goa University. The guest of honour was Yusuf Sheikh, noted poet and lyricist. DKA president Premanand Lotlikar also spoke.
DKA secretary Vincy Quadros urged new writers to take advantage of various schemes offered by the Academy.
The programme was compered by Anthony Miranda and Daniel de Souza. Treasurer Walter Menezes proposed the vote of thanks. Muriel, Vivian, Golan and Ethel Fernandes performed.
