PANJIM: Following the allegations about the exorbitant expenditure
by the election machineries during the polls, the Chief Electoral Office (CEO)
has constituted five-member inquiry committee to probe into the accusations
which went viral on social media.
Five member committee headed by Additional CEO Narayan Navti
has been formed to inquiry into the allegations and submit report within next
three-four days. As per social activist Adv Aires Rodrigues the total budgetary
provision for the State Assembly elections were Rs 40 crore, however, some
media reports and social media posts claim that the expenditure went to
whopping Rs 57 crores.

CEO IAS Kunal said that there was media reportage as well as
several posts on social media alleging exorbitant expenditure by the election
machinery. “They quoted the figure as Rs 57 crores. Hence, I have formed the
inquiry team to investigate into these allegations,” he said.
CEO said that the committee has been directed to submit the
detail expenditure incurred by the election office from January 4, when the
election code was implemented in the State till date. “Also details of expenditure on February 3 and
February 4,” he said.
The elections in the State were held on February 4, with as
many as 17,000 officers including police personnel on duty. The EVMs along with
VVPATs are sealed and kept in strong rooms in Panjim and Margao.
