MAYEM: Pernem taluka has received added water supply after the Water Resource Department (WRD), Goa, installed a giant lift irrigation pump at the right canal of the Tillari River at Parme-Maharashtra.
The pump has been installed following the instructions of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar in a bid to make alternative arrangements to supply water to Goa.
The Tillari canal water was stopped after the Tilari canal breached in Maharashtra.
According to sources, the water is pumped from the river and is supplied to the right canal which is later supplied to the farms.
Due to this arrangement, farmers from Pernem received water from Thursday.
Meanwhile, the water to Amthane dam was supplied through the Chapora river by pumping, while about four pumps of 300 HP are installed and 24-hour pumping is going on to supply water to Assonora plant to meet the water needs of Bardez taluka.
Parrikar said the situation will improve in the next three days as pumping water from Tervan to Chapora river has been started.
Parrikar has also taken the initiative to provide water to Sal farmers and farmers have expressed satisfaction over the efforts of the chief minister.
WRD Minister Dayanand Mandrekar will visit Sal on Friday to take stock of the situation.
