MARGAO: Parish Youth, Nuvem got the better of Cuncolim Union 5-4 via the tie-breaker to storm into the final of 29th Cana Benaulim Soccer tournament organized by Young Strikers, Benaulim, at St John the Baptist ground, Dando-Benaulim, on Thursday. The teams were locked 1-1 at the end of normal period.
Parish Youth started the game in the right earnest with their forwards troubling the rival defence with sporadic raids. They broke the deadlock in the 12th minute through a spot after Inacio Colaco’s rasping short on goal was handled by rival player Cliffton Fernandes.
Off the resultant spot-kick, Remmy Colaco sent the rival goalkeeper on the wrong side.
Nuvem had a couple of scoring chances but either their forwards shot straight into the safe hands of rival goalkeeper or shot wide.
Post resumption, Parish Youth continued to enjoy the better share of exchanges but it was Cuncolim Union, who wasted a golden chance after striker Daulat Dessai shot wide with only rival goalkeeper at his mercy.
Cuncolim Union made last ditch as Daulat floated the ball to Krishna Shirodkar and the latter headed home, 1-1.
In the penalty shoot-out, Inacio Colaco, John Dias, Schubert Colaco and Stanley Colaco scored for Parish Youth while Myron Fernandes, Krishna Shirodkar and Cliffton Fernandes were on target for Cuncolim Union.
Parish Youth will now meet Ambelim Sports Club in the final on August 2.
