VASCO: Archaeology Minister Shubash Phal Dessai said that a state-of-the-art museum will be opened at the Mahalasa Narayani Temple, Verna to promote spiritual tourism and he will visit Portugal to bring back old Goan records and treasures.
After holding a joint meeting with the members of Mahalasa Narayani Temple Trust and the Temple Managing Committee at Verna, Phal Dessai said that temples structure across the State and idols are unique and ancient and shows the history. He said, “Temple trusts have always played a pivotal role to redevelop the ancient temples while the government has provided all the required facilities.”

Stating that a state-of-art museum will be put up in the Mahalasa Narayani Temple, he informed that the rough sketch of the museum is ready and it has been decided to exhibit various ancient idols found in the State along with information of Hindu culture, traditions, different deities and old rulers in historical chronology so as to promote spiritual tourism. Also tourists can visit the temple and get information of Goa and history of temples destroyed during colonial Portuguese in this museum as it will showcase Goa’s rich culture and traditions.
The Minister said that steps have already been taken to bring back old records and treasures of Goa from Portugal. “We will visit Portugal to get old records and treasures. We have to see where and in what form it is and how we can get it and how we can gain control over it,” he said.
Phal Dessai said that he is meeting different people and researchers, who had visited Portugal so as to have a proper historical knowledge because they know the exact details of the Goa’s old records and treasure in Portugal.
The Minister further said that ancient forts will be conserved and restored and any religious structure which is over 100 years old will be taken up as an archaeological protected site and the government will restore it and throw it open for the public.
