BICHOLIM: Former Sanquelim Municipal Council (SMC) chairman Anand Naik has accused SMC Chief Officer Umesh Kerkar of failing to follow resolutions of the council and acting in a high-handed manner. Naik claimed that Kerkar had even levied tax on collection of garbage on some of the wards, which were earlier excluded by a resolution. “Many villagers were forced to pay an extra amount of Rs 300 towards house tax and this amount was proposed only for city, where door-to-door garbage collection is done,” stated Naik.
“There were some other resolutions taken by the council including free taps and toilets for poor families, assistance for persons affected with natural calamity, etc, but the chief officer is denying all this,” stated Naik.
“We had also proposed a uniform for SMC workers, but Kerkar has not even implemented it despite reminding him,” alleged Naik.
“About 52 files prepared under NFBC, where widows get Rs 10,000 are still pending in the office, as he did not sign it,” Naik further alleged.
When contacted, Sanquelim Chief Officer Umesh Kerkar refused to comment in the matter.
“I cannot comment due to the Election Code of Conduct in view of election to Sanquelim Municipal Council,” said Kerkar.
