PANJIM: Many queen-pins- all ladies who loot, small time government servants, a teacher/headmistress all make up the motely crew of those visibly involved in the Goa job scam.

They are ringmasters/mistresses, agents and helpers or just duped victims. But it is clear that such an organised deep rooted racket could not have functioned without the support and connivance of powerful people in the system, including senior politicians
Former ministers and social activists and others are firm about this.
The police have so far nabbed small fry and are yet to arrest the big sharks, who are suspected to be having their links with officers and leaders of various political dispensations.
Former Minister Manohar ‘Babu’ Ajgaonkar said, “There is corruption in RTO, Transport Department and in the Goa police because aspirants give money to get jobs. As a politician we have to help educated youth, but we should not take money for it.”
Former Minister Jose Philip D’Souza said, “It cannot happen without top politicians being involved in it. Those who want to make money will make it anyhow. People run for government jobs because it gives them security.”
Former Minister Nirmala Sawant said, “When I was minister, I never took money for jobs and gave jobs to youth. But now many people come to me and I tell them that I am no longer in politics so I am unable to help you. However, I have heard that people take money. It could be a rumour also.”
Social worker Rajesh Dabholkar of Reis Magos said, “This is the biggest scam. It has spread across Goa. A woman from Kolhapur collected money from gullible people in Goa and fled. This means these elements have taken people of Goa for granted. Goans fall prey to their tricks because they want white collar jobs.”
“It is pity that people pledge their gold and borrow money to pay up the touts. The people approach police only after exhausting all efforts to recover the money,” Dabholkar said.
“I want to know why can’t unemployed educated youth start self-employment, rather than giving money to cheaters. People have lost their hard-earned money. This is very serious. Chief Minister has said that government officers are involved in the job scam. It cannot happen without political involvement and the investigation has to be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to go into the root of the case,” Dabholkar said.
Andrew Sequeira, a BJP activist from Margao said, “So far small fry are in the police net in the job scam and the police are yet to catch the big fish. My humble request to Chief Minister to catch the sharks. If people are not happy with the police investigation then the case should be handed over to the CBI.”
Former Mormugao chairperson and social activist Tara Kerkar said, “Pooja Naik and others are pawn on the chess board and queen and king are still out. There is one madame (suspected in job scam) sittting at Sankhali and the Chief Minister should find out who is this madame.”
“How Pooja Naik and others could enter the offices and residences of Ministers. This gives enough room for the involvement of Ministers. In the past there was allegation of misuse of funds between Ministr Govind Gaude and Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar but BJP president claimed that it was internal party matter and hushed up,” Kerkar said.
Educationist Pandurang Nadkarni, said, “The scamsters could be close to politicians or the politicians themselves. However, it is not so difficult if somebody wants to find out because the particular person would have told the minister several times recommending some of the candidates”.
Former Goa Government Employees Association (GGEA) President Ajit Talaulikar said, “This is a larger scam. It is not limited just to Pooja Naik but starts from the top and percolates down. I have experienced this also when people used to come to me to help in getting jobs and I was unable to help them.”

PONDA: The Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Ponda on Tuesday remanded Deepashree Sawant alias Gauns from Marcel and IRB constable Sagar Naik from Curti arrested in connection with the alleged cash for job scam, to police custody
Alleged mastermind Deepashree was remanded in two days police custody while Sagar Naik was remanded in one day police custody. Both the accused were arrested by the Ponda police on Monday.
Three cars and two bikes registered in the name of Deepashree were also seized by the police.
Naik was rearrested by the police following another complaint against him by Sadanand Virnodkar of Sanvordem. Naik and headmistress Sunita Pawaskar from Tivrem-Orgao was arrested earlier on October 27 and 28 respectively in connection with a cheating case filed against them on September 30 by Trupti Prabu from Gaonkarwada, Usgao, to the tune of Rs 15 lakh on the pretext of providing her teacher’s post.
Both, Naik and Pawaskar were released on October 30, while the mastermind Deepashree was absconding.
Virnodkar in his complaint has stated that the constable cheated him to the tune of Rs 10 lakh luring to offer a job of junior engineer in PWD.
