MARGAO: Colva panchayat has written to the Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) requesting it to cease issuing No Objection Certificates (NOCs) or permissions for motor-powered paragliding activities in the area.
Sarpanch Suzie Fernandes has expressed serious concerns regarding the safety of residents, tourists, and paragliding operators. This issue was discussed in detail at the gram sabha held on October 27, where member Simao Rodrigues highlighted significant safety risks associated with these activities, particularly regarding public safety and the well-being of those operating the motor-powered paragliders.
“The panchayat has unanimously resolved to request that the GTDC immediately stop issuing NOCs or permissions for such activities in Colva,” stated the sarpanch.
The village panchayat cited several key reasons for its decision. These include the risks associated with low-altitude operations of motor-powered paragliders, mechanical noise, and the potential for mishaps during take-offs or landings.
Additionally, the operators of these paragliders face considerable risks due to mechanical failures, unpredictable weather conditions, and the lack of adequate safety protocols in the area.
In light of these concerns, the Colva village panchayat now written to the GTDC to halt the issuance of permissions for motor-powered paragliding activities within the village’s jurisdiction.
