MARGAO: The Cavelossim Village Panchayat has formally written to Health Minister Viswajit Rane, urging the government to upgrade the Carmona Sub-Health Centre due to critical gaps in healthcare infrastructure.

Sarpanch Dixon Vaz told reporters, “We are facing various difficulties traveling from Cavelossim to Carmona, then on to Chinchinim and then to Margao,” emphasising the transportation challenges for local residents seeking medical care.
In a letter sent on Thursday, Sarpanch Vaz points out that the Carmona Sub-Health Centre, which serves the coastal villages of Cavelossim and Varca, is operating with minimal facilities, limited staff, and restricted medical services. These villages are not only home to a large population but are also popular tourist destinations, further stressing the need for adequate healthcare infrastructure.
The panchayat argues that upgrading this sub-health centre would significantly reduce the workload on the Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Chinchinim, which currently caters to multiple villages. By enhancing the Carmona centre’s capabilities, the panchayat hopes to improve medical services for both local residents and the numerous tourists visiting the area.
“We earnestly request you to consider this request for the betterment of our citizens,” the letter concludes, underscoring the urgent need for improved healthcare infrastructure in the region.
It may be recalled that this issue of upgrading the Carmona Health Centre had been raised by the Benaulim MLA on various occasions as well.
