In a shocking incident, Siddique alias Suleman Khan (55), a proclaimed offender in multiple land-grabbing cases, escaped from Crime Branch custody in Ribandar, Goa, early on Friday, December 13, 2024. The escape reportedly occurred at around 2:30 AM, when IRBn PC Amit Naik, who was on guard duty, allegedly unlocked the custody facility and fled with Khan using his two-wheeler.
An FIR has been lodged at the Old Goa Police Station, and the authorities have launched a statewide manhunt. Khan, who had been absconding for 4.5 years, was arrested by the Crime Branch SIT on November 12, 2024, after intensive efforts led by SP Crime. He was formally charged in three cases, including two in North Goa, during a 30-day custody period.

We will take both disciplinary and criminal action against the IRBn constable Amit Naik. Strict action will be taken against all police officials on duty last night. Teams have been dispatched to various locations, and we have some leads to trace Suleman.

The Goa Police, in coordination with neighboring state authorities, has intensified efforts to apprehend the fugitive. Allegations of preferential treatment towards Khan have been dismissed as baseless by senior officials. However, a detailed inquiry into the administration of custody and the events leading to the escape has been ordered. A detailed enquiry into administration of lock up and custody of accused in Crime Branch will be conducted by senior officials.
