The Centre has filed a curative petition in the Supreme Court challenging the July 25, 2024 ruling that states alone have the authority to tax mineral rights. The earlier nine-judge bench verdict favoured mineral-rich states, allowing recovery of pending dues since April 2005, while waiving penalties before July 2024.
