RAIA: Hosts Navelim Villagers Union moved into the semi-finals of Navelim Villagers Union Trophy defeating United Club of Benaulim 2-1 in the quarter-final of Navelim Villagers Union Trophy football tournament played at Rosary Church ground, on Sunday.
Both teams played a goalless first half, displaying strong defence and exciting football.
In the 40th minute, United Club of Benaulim took the lead. However, Navelim Villagers Union equalised in the 48th minute through Aden Pereira.
Navelim Villagers Union continued to press hard for the winner, and Trevis D’Souza netted the decisive goal to give his team a 2-1 victory. Despite UC Benaulim’s late pressure, the Navelim Villagers Union defence held firm to secure the win.
Earlier, Canacona Cultural and Sports Club defeated Dicarpale Sports Club 4-1 to move into the next round. Melvin and Austin scored two goals each for Canacona CSC and Agnelo Colaco scored one goal for Dicarpale SC.
