South Goa MP Viriato Fernandes Accuses Mauvin Godinho of Misleading Public Over ₹550-Crore Flyover, Alleges Link to Mopa Airport

South Goa MP Captain Viriato Fernandes has strongly criticised Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho over the ₹550-crore flyover project, alleging that the minister has misled the public about its true purpose.

Fernandes said that while Godinho had initially claimed the project aimed to ease traffic congestion and reduce accidents, he has now “inadvertently admitted” that the flyover is intended to facilitate the transport of coal and other cargo from the port.

The South Goa MP further alleged that the flyover’s design—particularly its height exceeding permissible limits—appears to be a deliberate move to hinder flight operations at Dabolim Airport. According to Fernandes, this would ultimately benefit the private airport at Mopa.

He also accused Godinho of having vested interests, alleging that the minister played a role in facilitating the sale of properties in Pernem to the Deltin casino group. Fernandes called for transparency and accountability in the execution of the flyover project.
