Carlos questions Pooja Naik’s confession, calls it possible extortion bid

Congress MLA and Advocate Carlos Alvares Ferreira has raised doubts over the alleged confession of accused Pooja Naik in the job recruitment scam. He questioned whether Naik’s admission was genuine or an attempt to portray herself as a victim. Carlos suggested that if her statement was made in exchange for leniency, it could be viewed as an extortion bid rather than a true confession.

He said that corruption remains a crime even if the accused returns the money, adding that it is for the court to decide on sentencing and whether the FIR should be dropped. Carlos also asked Naik why she claimed the scam occurred only between 2019 and 2021 when evidence indicates it continued until 2025. He further inquired if the money she allegedly received was ever declared to the Income Tax Department, casting further doubt on her version of events.
