A tragic road accident occurred on Saturday evening around 7:30 pm at Assonora, when a white car lost control and plunged into a canal, resulting in the death of one person.
The deceased has been identified as Dipesh Mandrekar (40), a resident of Assonora. According to reports, the car was heading towards Assonora when it suddenly veered off the road and fell into the canal under unexplained circumstances.

The driver of the vehicle, Mitesh Shirgaonkar (40) from Shirgao, sustained minor injuries and was immediately rushed to the Bicholim Primary Health Centre (PHC) for medical treatment. Locals who witnessed the accident quickly rushed to the spot and managed to rescue the injured driver from the submerged vehicle.
Later, a team of police personnel and emergency responders arrived and successfully retrieved the body of the deceased, which was then sent to the Asilo Hospital in Mapusa for post-mortem and further formalities.
Police have initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the accident. Preliminary inquiries suggest that loss of control or slippery road conditions may have led to the mishap. Authorities have urged drivers to exercise caution, especially while travelling on narrow or poorly lit village roads at night.
