RAIA: Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda, edged past United Boys of Ambaulim 4-2 via tie-breaker in the final to be crowned champions of Fr Gervasio Pinto memorial football tournament organised by Guardian Angel Sports Club, Curchorem, at the Figueiredo ground, Pontemol-Curchorem, recently.
The final was played on the feast day of their Patron Guardian Angel in front of large crowd. Both teams showed urgency to score goals in the beginning but Don Bosco Oratory had the first look at the rival goal through Jef Barreto in the 31st minute. Their joy was short-listed as UB Ambaulim equalised through Visiton Fernandes in the 33rd minute.
Both teams remained 1-1 draw till the final whistle.
In the resultant tie-breaker, Rahul Sharma, Velito Miranda, Cavon Araujo and Alfred Noronha of Don Bosco Oratory were on target, while Dalcon Carvalho, Visiton Fernandes and Alex Fernandes found the net for UB Ambaulim.
Curchorem MLA and CEO of Guardian Angel Sports Club Nilesh Cabral was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of Curchorem Cacora Municipal Council Chairperson Damodar Bhende, Dr Jasmine Braganza, Guardian Angel SC Manager Fr Thomas Gonsalves, Fr Ashliff Correia, Anthony Pango, Anthony Fernandes, Constancio Rodrigues, Andrew Ferrao, Custodio Fernandes, Natividade Colaco and other dignitaries.
