PANJIM: Goa were handed the follow-on after being bowled out well short of Saurashtra’s massive first-innings total in the ongoing Ranji Trophy Elite B Group match at the Niranjan Shah Stadium Ground C, on Tuesday.
Responding to Saurashtra’s formidable 585 for 7 declared, Goa’s first innings folded for 358 in 106.2 overs on the third day of the match on Tuesday, leaving them 227 runs behind.
Abhinav Tejarana was the standout performer for Goa with a fine 118, while lower-order wicketkeeper-batter Rajshekhar Harikant produced a blistering knock of 69 off just 55 balls, hammering 10 fours and 3 sixes. However, other batters failed to convert their starts, with Deepraj Gaonkar (33) and Arjun Tendulkar (26) falling after promising beginnings. Lalit Yadav contributed a steady 59.
For Saurashtra, Yuvrajsinh Dodiya was the wrecker-in-chief, claiming six wickets for 98 runs. Parth Bhut picked up two wickets, while veteran Jaydev Unadkat took one.
Following the huge deficit, Saurashtra enforced the follow-on. Goa, batting again, reached 77 for 2 in 16.3 overs by stumps, still facing an uphill battle to save the match.
Brief score: Saurashtra: 587/7 declared. Goa: 358 all out in 106.2 overs (Abhinav Tejrana 118, Lalit Yadav 59, Rajsekhar Harikant 69; Yuvrajsinh Dodiya 6/98) and 77/2 in 16.3 overs.
