Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL), in coordination with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), successfully conducted a joint mock exercise on disaster management and rescue operations at River Bridge No. 1504 on the Gangavali River, located in Shiroor village along the Gokarna Road–Ankola section.
The exercise aimed to evaluate preparedness, enhance inter-agency coordination, and test response capabilities during emergencies in riverine and bridge environments. Key rescue scenarios simulated during the drill included:

- Rescue of drowning persons from the water
- Underwater operations conducted by deep divers
- Vertical lifting of victims from the river
- On-site medical assistance to rescued individuals
- Evacuation of stranded persons from the bridge by the Fire Brigade
KRCL teams also demonstrated operations using the Self Propelled Accident Relief Medical Van (SPARMV) raft, including retrieval of drowning persons and vertical lifting exercises on the bridge.
The mock drill saw active participation from multiple local agencies, including the District Disaster Management Cell, Taluka Medical Team, State Police, Fire Brigade personnel, and Village Panchayat authorities, ensuring a coordinated approach to disaster response.
The exercise concluded successfully, highlighting the joint commitment of KRCL and NDRF to improving disaster preparedness and reinforcing passenger safety across the Konkan Railway network.
