Supreme Court to Hear CBI Plea on Kuldeep Sengar’s Unnao Rape Sentence; Jantar Mantar Protests Erupt

The Supreme Court is set to hear the CBI’s urgent plea challenging the Delhi High Court’s suspension of expelled BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar’s life sentence in the infamous Unnao rape case on Monday. A three-judge vacation bench led by Chief Justice Surya Kant, with Justices JK Maheshwari and Augustine George Masih, will examine the matter amid public outrage.

Sengar was convicted in December 2019 for the brutal 2017 rape of a minor in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh, a case that drew national attention after the victim’s family faced threats and tragedies. The Delhi High Court recently suspended his sentence, prompting the CBI’s appeal to restore the punishment. The decision has reignited debates on justice for sexual violence survivors.
