PANJIM: The inaugural edition of Legends Pro T20 League, promoted by the SG Group will be held from January 26 to February 4, featuring six franchise-based teams and 90 legendary players, at the newly inaugurated 1919 Sportz Cricket Stadium, Verna, allowing fans to be part of a continuous, festival-like cricketing carnival unlike any other legends league.
Featuring iconic names such as Shikhar Dhawan, Harbhajan Singh, Shane Watson and Dale Steyn, the Legends Pro T20 League brings together some of the most accomplished names in world cricket while giving fans an electrifying start to the New Year.
More than a showcase of nostalgia, Legends Pro T20 League is a celebration of cricketing excellence, bringing together legendary players who have inspired generations, now competing in a format built to highlight their skill, charisma and competitive spirit. Featuring multiple franchises, top-tier global talent, and a tournament structure created for maximum balance and suspense, the league is positioned to become the most premium and globally anticipated event on the annual cricketing calendar.
Providing leadership and a player-centric focus, former Australian captain Michael Clarke has been appointed League Commissioner.
Speaking about his new role, Clarke said he is thrilled to be part of a league that brings so many top players together.
“India, being one of the biggest homes of cricket, holds a special place for me. The passion of the fans, the pride, and the privilege of being part of this league, and the chance to reunite with some old friends as well as fierce rivals, make it truly special. I am really excited to be part of the Legends Pro T20 League in this new role. It’s thrilling to see so many top players coming together in one league. Goa is a fantastic venue, and I can’t wait to see fans enjoy high-quality cricket, competitive contests, and unforgettable moments on the field.”
Australian great Shane Watson is relishing his return to competitive cricket, saying that the Legends Pro T20 League captures the buzz of the IPL while carrying the easy, sun-soaked charm of a game by the beach.
Speaking ahead of his appearance in the Legends Pro T20 League, Watson said the drive to compete has never really left him. “Once that spark is in you, it’s hard for it to disappear,” he said.
“I still enjoy hitting the ball cleanly, I still want to test myself, and this league gives me the space to do all of that while actually having fun again.”
For Watson, one of the biggest draws is sharing the field with players he has crossed paths with for years, sometimes as rivals, sometimes as teammates. “Being out there with guys like Harbhajan, Shikhar and Dale brings back a lot of memories,” he said.
“We’ve played against each other, spent time in the same dressing rooms and travelled across the world together. There’s a lot of history there. Now we get to enjoy all of that without the intensity of points tables or titles. It’s a different kind of special.”
Looking ahead, Watson is confident the league will strike a chord with supporters. “The response has already been fantastic,” he added. “You can sense the excitement growing. I think this season will remind people exactly why they fell in love with the game.”
The league now moves into its next phase, promising strong contests, nostalgia and plenty of cricketing flair from some of the sport’s most respected names.
