Agnivesh Agarwal, son of Vedanta Group chairman Anil Agarwal, passed away at the age of 49 following a sudden cardiac arrest in the United States. Anil Agarwal described the tragedy as a “medical setback” during treatment after a skiing accident. Announcing the death on Wednesday, the Vedanta founder said it was the darkest day of his life.
Born on June 3, 1976, in Patna, Bihar, Agnivesh studied at Mayo College in Ajmer before building a successful career in business. He founded Fujairah Gold and later served as Chairman of Hindustan Zinc, one of Vedanta Group’s key companies. In an emotional post on X, Anil Agarwal said Agnivesh was receiving treatment at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York and was believed to be out of danger before the cardiac arrest.

Remembering him as a sportsman, musician, and leader, Agarwal said his son remained simple, warm, and deeply humane. Referring to him as “Agni,” he said Agnivesh shared the family’s commitment to giving back more than 75 per cent of their earnings to society.
