‘Journalists Are the Fourth Pillar’: BJP ZP Member Mohan Gaonkar Expresses Regret Over Controversy

BJP Zilla Parishad member Mohan Gaonkar on Tuesday described journalists as the “fourth pillar of democracy” and said the recent controversy involving his remarks was the result of a misunderstanding.

Clarifying his position, Gaonkar stated that he never intended to hurt the media fraternity and respects the role played by journalists in strengthening democratic institutions.

He further said that if journalists across Goa felt offended by his comments, he had “no problem” offering an apology.

Gaonkar’s statement comes amid criticism from sections of the media following his earlier remarks, which had sparked a backlash. By expressing regret and reiterating his respect for journalists, the BJP leader sought to defuse the situation and restore cordial relations with the media community.
