Residents of Saligao have strongly objected to the proposed installation of a mobile tower near Saligao Government School, citing concerns over potential health risks and its close proximity to homes and educational institutions.
The opposition was voiced during a special Gram Sabha convened at the Village Panchayat, where villagers unanimously rejected the project. Participants expressed apprehension about the possible impact of radiation from the tower on students and nearby residents.
Panchayat Maintains Stand
The Saligao Village Panchayat reiterated its earlier objection to the proposal. Panchayat members assured residents that they would not withdraw their opposition, despite efforts by the telecom company to secure the necessary approvals.
Villagers emphasized the need to prioritise public health and safety, especially when infrastructure projects are proposed in close vicinity to schools and residential areas.
The matter is expected to see further deliberations as the telecom company pursues clearances, while residents and the Panchayat maintain firm resistance to the installation.
