Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has stepped up efforts to persuade taxi operators to adopt the state-backed “Goa Taxi” app, describing it as a solution aimed at balancing the interests of drivers and tourists alike. Addressing reporters after meeting taxi association members, Sawant said the platform would create a more transparent and secure transport ecosystem.
He emphasised that the digital system would help resolve frequent complaints about inconsistent fares and safety concerns, particularly during peak tourist seasons. By operating on a single platform, he argued, taxi drivers could ensure standardised pricing while maintaining direct control over their services.
The Chief Minister maintained that the government’s intention is not to undermine local operators but to strengthen them through technology. He noted that discussions were constructive and indicated that association members showed signs of cooperation.
Taxi unions are expected to convene internally to review the proposal in detail. The outcome of those deliberations could shape how quickly the digital platform is implemented.
The initiative marks another attempt by the government to modernise the tourism-linked transport sector while attempting to ease tensions with stakeholders.
