A Sukhoi Su-30MKI fighter jet of the Indian Air Force lost radar contact in Assam on Friday evening, prompting search efforts to locate the aircraft, officials said.
According to the Indian Air Force, the aircraft had taken off from Jorhat in Assam and was last in contact with radar at around 7.42 pm. Authorities have launched efforts to trace the jet and determine the circumstances behind the loss of contact.

The Su-30MKI is one of the most advanced fighter aircraft in the Indian Air Force fleet and has long served as its operational backbone. Several squadrons of the aircraft are deployed in the northeastern region of the country.
Originally developed by Russia in the 1980s, the Su-30MKI is a highly customised variant designed specifically for India. The first batch of Russian-built Su-30 aircraft was delivered to India in 1997.
At present, the aircraft is manufactured in India by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). The Indian Air Force currently operates a fleet of more than 250 Su-30MKI fighter jets.
