Patients visiting the Sanguem Primary Health Centre are reportedly facing serious difficulties due to shortages of essential medicines, lack of staff and limited medical services.
According to local residents, the health centre has been struggling with an irregular supply of medicines. Patients often have to wait for weeks, and sometimes even a month, to receive certain prescribed medicines. The situation is particularly difficult for patients who depend on regular medication such as insulin.

The health centre is currently functioning with minimal staff. At present, there is only one pharmacist and one laboratory technician available. If either of them goes on leave, nurses are forced to take on additional responsibilities and manage their duties.
Another major concern raised by locals is the absence of an X-ray technician. As a result, patients requiring basic diagnostic services are compelled to travel to other hospitals outside the area for tests.
Ambulance facilities have also come under scrutiny. Residents say the health centre’s ambulance is frequently seen parked in the garage, and even for minor referrals the hospital depends on the 108 Emergency Response Service, which is primarily meant for emergency situations.
Meanwhile, a new building constructed for the health centre has still not been inaugurated. Authorities have not announced any fixed date for when the new facility will be opened for public use.
Locals have now urged the government to intervene and address the issues urgently to ensure proper healthcare services for the people of Sanguem and surrounding areas.
