IPL 2026: Rohit Sharma Back In MI Camp As New Season Preparations Begin

Rohit Sharma marked his return to the Mumbai Indians camp on Tuesday, bringing a positive vibe as preparations for the upcoming Indian Premier League season gathered pace. The veteran batter was seen catching up with head coach Mahela Jayawardene and fellow India teammate Shardul Thakur before beginning his training session in the nets.

Rohit, who has been at the heart of Mumbai Indians’ golden era, remains one of the most accomplished players in IPL history. With six titles to his name — including five as captain of the franchise — his leadership played a defining role in shaping Mumbai into one of the league’s most successful teams. He first took over the captaincy in 2013 and delivered instant success by guiding the team to their maiden title that very season.

Over the years, Rohit led the side to multiple championships, including triumphs in 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020. However, a major transition took place ahead of the 2024 season when Hardik Pandya was appointed as the new captain, ending Rohit’s long stint at the helm.

Even without the captaincy, Rohit continues to be a cornerstone of the team. He is Mumbai Indians’ highest run-scorer and among a select few players to have crossed the 6,000-run mark in the IPL. His 2013 season remains one of his best, where he scored 538 runs and led from the front.

Speaking about the camp, Jayawardene emphasised the importance of setting the right tone from day one. He noted that early energy, discipline, and intent are crucial as the team blends experienced players with fresh talent.

As the new season approaches, Mumbai Indians will look to build on their strong legacy, with Rohit’s experience continuing to play a key role in their campaign.
