“MS Dhoni knew the reality”: Yuvraj Singh breaks silence amid no clear word from Virat Kohli, Ravi Shastri

Yuvraj Singh recently opened up about the uncertainty he faced during the final phase of his international career, revealing how a conversation with MS Dhoni gave him much-needed clarity. Speaking on a podcast with Vikrant Gupta, Yuvraj stressed that senior players deserve honest communication from team management.

Reflecting on his own experience, Yuvraj said he received little guidance about his future despite years of service to Indian cricket. He pointed out that several senior players like Zaheer Khan, Virender Sehwag, and Harbhajan Singh also faced similar situations. According to him, selectors, coaches, or captains should take responsibility for initiating difficult but necessary conversations.

Yuvraj, a key figure in India’s 2011 World Cup triumph, later battled cancer and made a remarkable comeback. However, inconsistency and limited opportunities marked his final years, leading to his exclusion from the 2015 and 2019 World Cups. Despite notable performances, including a 150-run knock against England, he struggled to secure a permanent place.

He admitted that the lack of communication left him confused about his future, especially as he approached his late 30s. It was during this time that Dhoni offered him an honest perspective, helping him better understand his situation.

Looking ahead, Yuvraj emphasized that players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma should not face similar uncertainty as the 2027 ODI World Cup approaches.
